Whether you're visiting Dunbar & Lloyd Skincare for your first facial or you're a longtime client, I want you to feel comfortable and confident before your appointment. Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions below.
FACIALS & SKINCARE
Which facial should I book?
Not sure what your skin needs? That's okay! The Custom Facial is a great place to start. Your treatment can be tailored to your skin type, concerns, and goals, and varies in length of time. If you're interested in a more specialized treatment, such as a peel or DMK Enzyme Treatment, I’m happy to help determine which option is right for you.
How often should I get a facial?
For many people, a facial every 4–6 weeks is a great way to maintain healthy skin and address ongoing concerns. Your ideal schedule will depend on your skin, goals, home skincare routine, and the treatments you're receiving.
Do you offer treatments for acne?
Yes, I offer several treatments that may be beneficial for acne and acne-prone skin, including customized facials, LED therapy, and a variety of peels. Because everyone's skin is different, I can help determine which treatment is most appropriate for your individual needs.
Do you offer facials for teenagers?
Yes! The Teen Facial is designed specifically for younger clients and generally focuses on cleansing, extractions, and helping support clearer, healthier skin.
What is a DMK Enzyme Treatment?
DMK Enzyme Therapy is a specialized treatment designed to support healthier-looking, better-functioning skin. The treatment uses an enzyme mask that becomes very firm as it sets and remains on the skin for approximately 45 minutes. Because of the tightening sensation, this treatment may not be comfortable for clients who experience claustrophobia.
What's the difference between DMK Enzyme Level 1 and Level 2?
Level 1 is the starting point for DMK Enzyme Therapy. Level 2 is a more advanced treatment incorporating additional masks, stronger exfoliants and techniques. Clients must receive a Level 1 DMK Enzyme Treatment before booking Level 2.
What is LED light therapy?
LED therapy is a non-invasive treatment using specific wavelengths of light. Depending on the treatment, it may be used to support concerns such as acne, visible signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, and overall skin rejuvenation. LED therapy is available as a facial treatment or as an add-on to another service.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that removes dead surface skin cells and fine vellus hair, commonly called "peach fuzz." It can leave the skin looking smoother and brighter, help absorb skincare products better and can be added to many facial treatments.
What is microdermabrasion?
Diamond microdermabrasion uses specialized diamond-tipped wands and suction to exfoliate the skin. It can help improve the appearance of uneven texture, dullness, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.
FACIALS & SKINCARE
How should I prepare for my facial?
Come with your skin as it normally is. If possible, avoid excessive sun exposure and aggressive exfoliation immediately before your appointment. Please let us know about any medications, allergies, recent procedures, skincare products, or health conditions that could affect your treatment.
Can I wear makeup to my appointment?
Yes! Don't worry if you're coming straight from work or another activity. Your treatment includes cleansing the skin, so makeup will be removed at the beginning of your appointment.
Should I stop using retinol before my appointment?
It depends on the treatment you're receiving. Retinol, Retin-A, and other active products can make skin more sensitive to certain treatments. It’s best to stop using most Retinol and Tretinoin products a few days before a skincare treatment. Please let us know what products and medications you're currently using so we can advise you appropriately.
If you're having an area waxed, discontinue retinol, Retin-A, or other topical products that may thin or sensitize the skin on or around that area at least one week before and after your appointment.

Is it ok to get a facial after getting Botox, Fillers or other injectables?
Please wait a minimum of two weeks after getting any injectable services done before getting a skincare treatment. This is ensure you get the best results from your injector, and the product doesn’t get moved around via facial massage, microcurrent, etc.
What should I tell my esthetician before my treatment?
Please tell me about allergies, sensitivities, medications, pregnancy, recent cosmetic procedures, Botox or fillers, prescription skincare, retinoids, recent sun exposure, and any medical conditions that could affect your treatment. When in doubt, tell me! It helps to provide the safest and most appropriate service for you.
